Smart Access
Smart Access offers remote PC users new levels of mobility by
providing reliable and robust communications over GPRS and CDMA
networks. Smart Access utilises the Brown's DNMobile software to
overcome some inherent disadvantages of cellular data.
Brown's Box, the central site component of Smart Access, receives
data calls via either a digital leased line or ISDN network and
routes them to relevant applications. All that is required to use
the system is a PC connected to a data-capable mobile
telephone.
Fast connect times offered by ISDN or digital leased lines ensure
that it is no longer necessary to hold the call during periods
where no data is being transmitted. The solution detects these idle
periods and drops the call, however the call is automatically
reconnected when data traffic is detected. This short-hold mode of
operation can reduce call costs significantly. This feature not
only minimises call costs but also re-establishes the call if the
call were to drop out due to poor signal quality. The system
therefore offers excellent mobile resilience holding the session in
off-line mode until reconnection can be effected by automatic retry
from the remote PC.
Potential operational benefits of Smart Access:
Automatic call recovery provides a resilient mobile access
Fast call set up reduces wasted call set up period and
associated costs
Short Hold Mode reduces mobile phone bills
Data Compression improves data throughput and reduces duration
of data calls
Security and encryption ensures access is only granted to those
authorise.
